Roasted Cashew Butter
Roasted cashew makes a delightfully creamy, smooth nut butter. It’s endlessly versatile when baking and holds its own when spread on a modest toast.
This roasted cashew butter recipe is super simple and fast to make. All you need is a food processor or high-speed blender and a couple of minutes. Cashew butter’s texture is similar to peanut butter; however, it’s a bit lighter and not as overpowering as peanut butter – at least the peanut butter you can buy at the market.
With the advent of veganism and vegetarianism over the past decade, it’s easy to assume cashew butter and cheeses were born of those particular diets. However, vegan cheeses (using cashew butter) and cashew butter have been around for at least a century (possibly more). As my mother says, “What’s old is new!” How right she is!

Cashew Butter Ingredients and Equipment
Just one ingredient. So simple!
- Roasted cashews – Unsalted roasted cashews are the base of cashew butter, which has a slightly sweet, nutty, mild flavor with a texture that is a bit more creamy than peanut butter.
- Coconut oil – Optional but helpful if you want your cashew butter to be more creamy.
- Food processor – Or a high-speed blender will whip this cashew butter together in no time!
How to Make Cashew Butter
Be prepared to be amazed!
- Roast the cashews – Roasting the cashews coaxes out the nutty flavor
- Add to food processor – Add the roasted cashews to the food processor and process on medium until smooth. This will take about eight minutes, scraping down the sides frequently.
- Keep blending – Your cashew butter might get a little clumpy at first, but that means it’s about ready to turn and become creamy. Keep the faith!
How to Use Your Cashew Butter
Cashew butter is excellent when baking and also as a spreadable.
- Chocolate Coconut Cream Pie – We use homemade cashew butter in our chocolate pie filling. It adds a slightly nutty flavor and creaminess.
- On toast – Cashew butter is a beautiful spreadable. Like peanut butter, it’s a natural on toast made with our five ingredients: bread.
- Cashew butter cookies – I absolutely LOVE these cookies! My personal favorite.
